BEREA, Ohio – The Lycoming College wrestling team opened the season at the Baldwin-Wallace Duals on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Warriors finished the quad-match with a 2-1 record.
Bryan Kopesky (Phillipsburg, N.J.), Michael Maurer (Towanda, Pa.) and Chris Dahlheimer (Felton, Pa.) each recorded three wins for the Warriors.
Lycoming, ranked 30th in the nation in the preseason poll, opened the duals with a 24-18 win against Thiel College and followed that with a 30-10 victory over Baldwin-Wallace.
In the third match of the day, Mount St. Joseph earned a 22-10 win.
In the opener, Lycoming picked up wins in six matches.
Thomas Barger (Clearfield, Pa.) earned a 9-7 win at 141 pounds and Maurer edged his opponent, 9-8, at 157 pounds. Dahlheimer earned a pin in 5:54 at 165 pounds. Troy Hayre (Falls Church, Va.) earned a 10-6 win at 174 pounds. Kopesky recorded the second Warrior pin of the match, pinning his opponent in 2:10 at 197 pounds. Richaurd Ausem (Towanda, Pa.) closed the match with a 1-0 win at 285.
The Warriors won seven matches against Baldwin-Wallace.
James Couturiaux pinned his opponent in 4:15 at 125 pounds to set the tone for the match. Barger picked up his second win of the day with a major decision, 13-3, at 141 pounds. Maurer also registered a 13-3 major at 149 pounds. Dahlheimer earned a close 6-4 win at 165 pounds and Kyle Crouthamel (Hamilton, N.J.) won the 184 pound match, 2-0. Kopesky picked up a major decision, 12-2, at 197 pounds and Ausem was declared a winner by forfeit at 285.
Lycoming won four matches in the final round of the day.
Maurer earned his third win of the day with a 9-7 win at 149 pounds. Dahlheimer registered his third win with a 6-0 victory at 165. Hayre won his second match of the day with a 14-6 major decision at 174 and Kopesky stayed perfect with a 20-10 major at 197 pounds.
The Warriors (2-1) will travel to the Messiah Duals on Saturday, Nov. 22. The first match is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
