Lady Warriors open season with convincing win

Rebecca LeidWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team opened its season with a 90-55 win against cross-town rival Penn College on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The Lady Warriors (1-0) shot 53.2 percent from the field to the Penn College’s (3-1) 26.3 percent.

Lycoming was led by Allison Mock (State College, Pa.), who tied the Lycoming record for 3-pointers in a game with six. She finished with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and was 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), the lone senior on the Lady Warriors’ roster, finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, one carom shy of a double-double. She also had two blocks in the game.

Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa.) scored 11 points off the bench and Rebecca Leid (Denver, Pa.) also scored in double figures, finishing the game with 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting effort. She also had six rebounds.

Erica Logan led Penn College with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kelsey Mack and Chelsey Holmes each had 12 points and April Gallagher added 11 points.

Lycoming finished with 34 points in the paint and 37 points off turnovers. The Lady Wildcats had 20 points in the paint and seven points off turnovers. Penn College had 33 turnovers to Lycoming’s 20.

The Lady Warriors got 38 points from the bench while the Lady Wildcats points were all scored by the starting five.

Lycoming will travel to Frostburg State this weekend for the Frostburg Tip-Off Tournament. Games begin on Friday, Nov. 21 and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 22.
