WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lycoming College women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision against Susquehanna in the second-annual River Derby Rivalry game on Monday, Oct. 27.
The Lady Warriors held an 18-14 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net.
Susquehanna got on the board in the 35th minute when Erinn Jenkins fielded a rebound off of Brie Pepe’s (Lafayette, N.J.) hands and put the ball into the left side of the net. The assist came off a corner kick by Julie Briskey.
Kaitlin Horn (Ringtown, Pa.) and Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa.) each had great looks at the net in the second half, but Crusader keeper Meredith Tompeck made two diving saves to keep the Lady Warriors off the board.
Pepe recorded five saves in goal for Lycoming while Tompeck turned away all 11 shots for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna held a 3-1 advantages in corner kicks.
With the loss, the Lady Warriors drop to 5-7-4 for the season while Susquehanna improves to 5-8-4.
Lycoming will travel to Widener on Saturday, Nov. 1, for a crucial Commonwealth Conference game. Depending on the other games during the week, that contest could decide the playoff fate for both teams. The Lady Warriors currently sit in a three-way tie for second-place, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. Lycoming has never made the conference playoffs in women’s soccer.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Chester, Pa.
Notes: This was the second-annual River Derby Rivalry game ... last season, Susquehanna won the inaugural game, 1-0, in double overtime.
