Lycoming storms back in 12-9 win over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – After the fourth quarter started with a lightning delay and the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team down by a pair of goals, the team stormed back with six goals in the final 11 minutes to post a 12-9 win over Keuka College at Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Saturday evening, March 7.

First-year Samuel Hall (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) scored three goals during the Warriors' fourth-quarter run, taking a dish from junior Brogan Wooley (Hampton, N.J./Morris Catholic) with 10:53 left to make it 8-7, before tying the game at eight with 9:06 left.

A faceoff win led to a quick transition goal, with Wooley finding sophomore James Hall-Melnychuck (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) for a go-ahead score with 8:53 left. Sophomore Cesar Carmona-Felipe (Oakland, Calif./Oakland Tech) added an insurance goal with 5:03 left.

Keuka (2-1 overall) closed within a goal with 4:11 left, but Wooley scored a side-winded man-up goal with 2:04 left before Hall closed out the scoring with 1:38 left, clinching the Warriors' first win.

Hall finished with five goals, two groundballs and two caused turnovers, Carmona-Felipe notched two goals and two assists and Wooley added a goal and two assists. First-year Gavin Bicher (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) and first-year Hunter Skornick (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) each posted three groundballs.

Keuka led 4-1 through the game's first 21 minutes before goals from Hall and first-year Garis Tocco (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) cut the Wolves' lead to 5-3 at halftime. The Wolves warded off the Warriors' attack in the third, as goals from Carmona-Felipe, Hall and first-year Kyle Kunes (Joppa, Md./Joppatowne) got the team within a goal, but Keuka answered with a goal to keep the lead each time. After the lightning delay, Harrison Root opened the fourth quarter with a goal for the Wolves, setting up the Warriors' comeback.

First-year Ryan MacElhinney (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel) scored the first goal for the Warriors early in the second quarter.

Root led the Wolves with six goals and five groundballs and Nikolas Gitsis notched two assists.

Junior Evan Donnelly (Hanover, Md./Archbishop Spalding) finished with 13 saves for the Warriors and Jaxson Tucker had seven saves for Keuka.
