WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After tossing a two-hit shutout to help the Lycoming College baseball team down the defending conference champions in his first start in more than a month, senior
A.J. Llorente (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) has earned his first career Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week award, the conference office announced on Monday, March 23.
Â
Llorente (1-0) allowed two hits, a walk and a hit batter, allowing just two runners to reach second base and retiring the last 14 batters he faced, striking out four Cardinals (11-8 overall, 2-5 Landmark) in an 11-0 Lycoming (9-11 overall, 2-5 Landmark) win on Sunday, March 23. He tossed just 74 pitches in the win.
Â
The senior, for good measure, also went 6-for-11 with two runs and two RBI in the three-game set with Catholic, as Lycoming won two of three games from the Cardinals.
Â
Llorente leads the Warriors with a .412 average (21-of-51), as he has scored nine runs and driven in 10 this season. He is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings. He has struck out six and walked two on the mound.
Â
Llorente was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Feb. 17 after he was 8-for-12 with a double and five RBI in the team's opening weekend against Guilford College. He joins junior
Alex Halbert (Laurel, Md./Atholton), who won the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 17 and March 2.
Â
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 25, when they host Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 3:30 p.m., at Brandon Park.
