WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — After his third straight scoreless start to begin the season, junior right-hander Alex Halbert (Laurel, Md. / Atholton) earned Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in the young season, the conference office announced on Monday, March 2.
Halbert got the ball in the opening contest of Lycoming's doubleheader against Hilbert College on Saturday, Feb. 28 and limited the Hawks to just three hits and induced three double plays, while walking four. All told, the junior worked 5.0 scoreless innings while striking out four and throwing 69 pitches. He left with a 6-0 lead in an eventual 7-0 triumph, earning his second win of the year.
For the season, the right-hander has thrown 14.0 scoreless innings across three starts, allowing just eight hits and six walks and striking out nine. He is tied for the second-longest scoreless streak in all of Division III to start the year.
His scoreless work already earned him Pitcher of the Week accolades on Feb. 16 after spinning 4.0 innings of one-hit ball in the Warriors' season-opening win at Guilford. With the pair of nods, Halbert is the first player in Lycoming baseball history to earn a weekly honor from the conference multiple times in a season. This nod is also the third weekly honor for the Warriors this season, with senior AJ Llorente (Williamsport, Pa. / Montoursville Area) earning Athlete of the Week on Feb. 16 as well.
The Warriors sit at 4-3 on the season going into a non-conference matchup against Gettysburg College that is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, March 4 at Brandon Park.
