WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- Three Lycoming College men's lacrosse players — sophomore Brogan Wooley(Hampton, N.J. / Morris Catholic), senior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) and senior Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del. / Smyrna) — posted hat tricks as Lycoming won its first Landmark Conference game of the season, 13-7, at Wilkes University on Wednesday night, April 9, at Schmidt Stadium.
Senior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) saved 17 shots in the cage for the Warriors (5-6 overall, 1-4 Landmark), as he became the 17th player in Division III history to reach 900 career saves and finished the game 15th in Division III history with 908 saves.
Alongside the trio of three-goal scorers, senior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) added two goals. Farrell clocked four assists — followed by Wooley and Hoover, who contributed two each. Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa. / Wycoming Area) picked up seven ground balls and caused three turnovers. Farrell snagged five ground balls alongside first-year Ryder Gehris (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown Area), who recorded an assist and snagged five ground balls.
To begin the first quarter, Hoover darted out with a goal in the third minute, and Wilson built on this momentum in the fourth minute to add another point to the board. First-year Cesar Carmona-Felipe (Oakland, Calif. / Oakland Tech) pushed toward the cage with 3:53 remaining to add the third goal of the first period, as the Warriors led by two.
In the second quarter, Wooley scored his first goal of the game in the ninth minute. Senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) followed up with 2:17 left in play, bringing the score to 5-2.
Following halftime, Farrell added three goals to the board in the second minute, 13th minute, and final minute of the third quarter. Wilson followed with two goals in the first and 10th minutes, respectively. Hoover and Wooley also added points, improving Lycoming's lead to seven points, 12-5.
In the final quarter, Wooley posted Lycoming's last goal in the 46th second.
In the cage for Wilkes (4-10 overall, 1-5 Landmark), Caleb Miller stopped 15 shots.
Anthony DelDuca scored four goals for Wilkes, Stone Sosnovik followed with two, and Tim Hartka closed out the scoring with one goal. Austin Sosnovik had four assists, and Oscar Cline added one helper. Stone Sosnovik also picked up eight ground balls, and Nicholas McManus followed closely with six.
The Warriors travel to Madison, N.J., on Saturday, April 12, to play against Drew University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
