MADISON, N.J.- Seniors Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) and Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del. / Smyrna) each led the Warriors with three goals as the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team fell, 20-8, against Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, April 12, at Ranger Stadium.
Hoover kicked off the Warriors' first-period scoring in the 10th minute, bringing the score to 3-1. Wilson followed with two goals, which came in the 11th and 14th minute, respectively, tying the game at 3.
Drew widened its lead to nine points in the second quarter, 12-3, but the Warriors (5-7 overall, 1-5 Landmark) rallied in the third quarter. Wilson returned in the second minute of the third quarter to sweep a goal into the cage. Senior Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J. / Archmere Academy) darted down the field in the eighth minute to add another. Seconds later, Hoover followed with two goals, bringing the score to 12-7. First-year Ryder Gehris (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown Area) rounded out Lycoming's scoring in the last minute of the third quarter.
Senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) contributed three assists, and senior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) followed with two helpers. Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa. / Wycoming Area) picked up four ground balls and caused four turnovers, and sophomore Jose Servin (Manassas City, Va. / Osbourne) snagged three ground balls.
Senior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) saved 22 shot attempts in the cage for the Warriors, as he continued to move up in the NCAA Division III record book. With 930 saves in his career, Franco also moved into 12th in Division III history, moving past three goalkeepers during the game. He needs five more stops to enter Division III's top 10.
In the cage for Drew (7-6 overall, 3-3 Landmark), Joe Barnish stopped 10 shot attempts. At the helm of Drew's offensive efforts, Luke Bruther scored five goals, and Mike DeMayo added four goals and three assists. Jake Rainero also grabbed 14 ground balls.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Wednesday, April 16, to play against Juniata College in Landmark Conference action at 7 p.m.
