Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) led the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team with a hat trick, but Lycoming fell, 15-5, against Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, April 5, at UPMC Field.
In the fifth minute of the second quarter, senior
Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) came around the net to secure the Warriors' first goal, bringing the score to 4-1. With 4:02 remaining in the period, Hoover rallied off Farrell's momentum to add another goal. As the clock ticked down to halftime, first-year
Ryder Gehris (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown Area) secured a man-up goal with assistance from Farrell.
In the fourth quarter, Hoover also added unassisted goals in the fifth and 11th minute respectively, bringing him to three goals in the game.
Sophomore
Jose Servin (Manassas City, Va. / Osbourne) grabbed four ground balls and caused two turnovers to help Lycoming's offensive efforts. Hoover and senior
Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J. / Archmere Academy) also snagged three ground balls each.
Senior
Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) saved 30 shots on goal in the cage for the Warriors (4-6 overall, 0-4 Landmark), the second highest number of saves in a game in program history. Franco broke the school record for saves in a game with 32 against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, March 29. With 891 saves in his career, he also moved into the top 20 in Division III history, finishing the game 19
th in the division's record books.
In the cage for Susquehanna (9-4 overall, 2-3 Landmark), Augie Granatelli clocked 10 saves and TJ Lynch added another in the final quarter. Jack Gaillard led the River Hawks with four goals and six assists. Chris Ciccarello and Brennan Lorence each added three goals, and both players also snagged four ground balls.
The Warriors travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Wednesday evening, April 9, to play in Landmark Conference action against Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
