Llorente knocks five hits against Catholic

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior A.J. Llorente (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) posted five hits and had a run and RBI to pace the Lycoming College baseball team, which notched 21 hits as it fell to the Catholic University of America, 10-4 and 10-4, in Landmark Conference action at Brandon Park on Saturday, April 26.
 
Sophomore Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI and junior Brody Lindsey (Monrovia, Md./DeMatha Catholic) was 3-for-4 with a run and RBI and Llorente was 2-for-5 with a RBI in the first game.
 
Lycoming (20-18 overall, 11-11 Landmark) scored in the fourth when MacCluen doubled and Lindsey followed with a single. In the sixth, the Warriors closed within a run of the Cardinals (19-16 overall, 10-10 Landmark), with MacCluen and Lindsey singling before Hoheb singled in a run and senior Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius) drove in a run with a sac fly.
 
Catholic broke the game open with three-run innings in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
Junior Landon Evans (Millville, Pa./Millville) (1-2) threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, three walks and two runs. He struck out one. Roman Tozzi pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. Jake Kenney earned the save with three innings of work, allowing two hits, two walks and one run.
 
Damon Pozzi was 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI, hitting a homer, and Stephen Thomas scored three runs. Mitchell Johnson also had a three-run homer in the eighth.
 
An eight-run first inning helped Catholic post another 10-4 win in the second game.
 
Junior Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) went 2-for-5 with two runs, senior Danny DeLucas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) was 2-for-3 and Llorente was 3-for-4 with a run.
 
Reeder singled to lead off the first, moved to third on a single by DeLucas and scored on an error. In the second, Llorente singled before Mok singled to move him to third before first-year Tyler Wetzel (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) drove in Llorente with a  sac fly. Reeder singled to start the third before DeLucas moved her to third with a single and he scored ona  grounder. In the sixth, MacCluen singled to lead off, moved to third on a single by Llorente and scored on a groundout.
 
Stephen Thomas was 3-for-4 with three runs, a double, a homer and three RBI. Sammy Burman was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI.
 
Cody Bosak (4-0) threw seven innings for the Cardinals, allowing nine hits and three earned runs. He walked three and struck out two. Junior Jake Wilber (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) (5-4) tossed one inning, allowing seven hits and eight runs. Junior Mason Drozal (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) tossed six scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out four.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Sunday, April 27, when they wrap up the three-game conference series with Catholic at 12 p.m., at Brandon Park.
