Warriors fall to Scranton

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- First-year Ryder Gehris (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown Area) and senior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) each had two goals, and senior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) clocked four assists to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team as it fell, 17-7, against the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, April 2, at UPMC Field.  

Senior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) saved 13 shots in the cage for the Warriors (4-5 overall, 0-3 Landmark), as he moved into the top 25 in Division III history in career saves, finishing the game 23rd in program history with 861.

Farrell whipped the ball to senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) in the eighth minute of the first quarter to secure the Warriors' first man-up goal. Gehris followed up with 2:56 left in the quarter to add another goal. Scranton answered with a goal with 1:02 on the clock, which Gehris met with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Warriors trailed by a point, 4-3, to end the first period.

Farrell assisted Hoover in the fifth minute of the second quarter to add another point to the board. With two seconds left in the period, senior Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del. / Smyrna) contributed another point, which was assisted by Farrell, bringing the score to 10-5.

With 4:42 remaining in the fourth period, Farrell helped senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) launch the ball past Scranton's defense into the back of the cage. Hoover returned with 1:11 on the clock to secure the Warriors' seventh goal. 

Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa. / Wycoming Area) grabbed five ground balls, and Hoover and Farrell followed with three. Switzer also caused six turnovers to help Lycoming's efforts.

Carsen Kirchner and Jake Dagata combined for nine saves for Scranton (4-8 overall, 4-0 Landmark).

Kyle Holmes and Jason Kozak each added five goals for Scranton, and Quinn Carson had three assists. John O'Connor snatched seven ground balls, and Connor Cole followed with four.

The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Saturday, April 5, to play against Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
