WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- Sophomore Brogan Wooley (Hampton, N.J. / Morris Catholic) and senior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) each scored four goals to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team as it claimed a 14-6 victory over Juniata College in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening, April 16, at UPMC Field.
First-year Cesar Carmona-Felipe (Oakland, Calif. / Oakland Tech) added two goals, and senior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa. / Allentown Central Catholic) contributed four assists for the Warriors (6-7 overall, 2-5 Landmark). Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa. / Wycoming Area) picked up six ground balls — followed by junior Cole Slezak (Butler, Pa. / Kiski Prep) with five and senior Colin Manankil (White Hall, Md. / Hereford) with four. Switzer also caused five turnovers, and Slezak contributed four turnovers to benefit Lycoming's defense.
Carmona-Felipe kicked off the Warriors' scoring with a goal in the second minute, and Switzer built off this momentum two minutes later to add another point to the board. In the sixth minute, Hoover launched the ball into the back of the cage for Lycoming's third goal. Carmona-Felipe followed up twenty seconds later to post the last point of the period, bringing the game to 4-0.
In the second period, Hoover added a point with 3:29 remaining on the clock, which Farrell assisted. With 2:04 left, Wooley scored another goal, aided by senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian). Wooley returned, teaming with Farrell, to contribute a final point with 1:22 remaining as Lycoming entered halftime with a six-point advantage, 7-1.
Hoover posted two goals in the third period in the fifth and seventh minutes, respectively. Switzer assisted Hoover's first goal, and first-year Ryder Gehris (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown Area) helped the second. With 3:15 remaining, Farrell returned to score a goal. As the buzzer rang to end the quarter, senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) rocketed the ball into the cage, helping the Warriors end the period with a six-point lead, 11-5.
Wooley started Lycoming's scoring in the fourth period with a goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Gehris. Ten seconds later, senior Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del. / Smyrna) darted down the field to record another goal. Wooley also returned to secure a man-up goal in the eighth minute.
Senior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) recorded 13 saves in the cage for the Warriors. With 943 saves in his career, Franco also moved into the top 10 in Division III history for career saves.
Juniata's goalkeeper Ryan Madison stopped 14 shot attempts by Lycoming. Sterling Bechler led the team with four goals, and Reuben Stoll added two to make up Juniata's six goals. Vincent Bechler also added two assists for Juniata (3-12 overall, 0-7 Landmark).
The Warriors travel to Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday, April 19, to compete in Landmark Conference action against Moravian University at 1 p.m.
