WESTMINSTER, Md. - First-years Logan Hammond (Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Township) and Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) won their singles matches to lead the Lycoming College men's tennis team in a 5-2 setback at McDaniel College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, March 23.
Shams brought in a point for the Warriors (0-8 overall) after he claimed a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Drew Ryder in No. 4 singles.
Neck and neck with McDaniel's Quinn Dietsche in No. 3 singles play, Hammond came back from a first-set loss to claim victory in the tiebreaker round, 3-6, 7-6(7-2), 12-10, for his first collegiate win.
Senior Matthew Baldridge (Damascus, Md. / Damascus), junior Josh Neidert (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley), sophomore Thomas Andersen (Wenonah, N.J. / Deptford Township) and sophomore Depesh Rai (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) also competed in singles play.
McDaniel improved to 3-9 overall.
The Warriors travel to Scranton, Pa., on Wednesday, March 26, for Landmark Conference action against the University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m.
