Lindsey, Llorente lead Warriors on getaway day at Greensboro

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Scoring eight runs in the final three innings, a patient Lycoming College baseball team brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning, but Greensboro College's early runs were enough to hold on for a 14-9 win in non-conference action at Truist Point Park on Sunday, Feb. 16.

After Greensboro (3-0 overall) took a 12-1 lead into the seventh inning, the Warriors (0-3 overall) rallied with a four-run seventh inning. Senior first baseman Danny DeLucas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) led off the inning with a double before sophomore shortstop Sean Perkins (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) was hit by a pitch and junior third baseman Brody Lindsey (Monrovia, Md./DeMatha Catholic) walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored DeLucas and a groundout scored Perkins before junior left fielder Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Area) and senior Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) walked to re-load the bases, setting up an RBI single from first-year pinch-hitter Kaden Shay (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area). A sac fly from junior second baseman Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius) made it 12-5.

In the eighth, Perkins led off with a walk, moved to second on a one-out single from junior A.J. Lorente (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) and third on an error that let Bottger reach. Schilling and first-year catcher Tyler Wetzel (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) drove in runs by getting hit by a pitch and Mok hit another sac fly to make it, 12-8. A walk reloaded the bases, but a strikeout ended the inning.

The Warriors again rallied in the ninth after the Pride scored twice in the bottom of the eighth. Lindsey reached with a  one-out single, took second on a single from Llorente, third on a fielder's choice and scored on an opposite field single from Schilling.

Lindsey hit Lycoming's first homer of the year, a solo shot to left in the fifth inning. Greensboro scored four in the first, three in the second and five in the sixth to build the 12-1 lead.

Lindsey went 2-for-4 with three runs and a homer. Llorente finished 2-for-5 with a run and RBI. Schilling and Mok each had two RBI.

Evan Sykes went 2-for-3 with three runs, a double, a homer and two RBI to lead the Pride. Kai Hayen went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and three RBI and Mike Rinaldi was 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and two RBI.

Isaiah Faudo (1-0) earned the win for the Pride, tossing six innings, allowing two hits and a run. He struck out nine. Llorente (0-1) toosed one inning for the Warriors, allowing four hits and four earned runs. He struck out one and walked one.

The Warriors are back on the field on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they head to the University of Maryland's Smith Stadium for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with Marymount Universtity (Va.).
