WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Senior Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa. / Nativity BVM) poured in a career-high 18 points as the Lycoming College women's basketball team built a 15-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back, breezing past Wilkes University, 71-40, in their Landmark Conference opener on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Lamade Gym.

Lycoming (2-1, 1-0) held Wilkes (2-2, 0-1) to just 19.1 percent shooting from the field, while also pulling down 55 rebounds and draining nine three-pointers. 

Wilkes scored the first bucket of the game, but the Warriors closed the opening quarter by clamping down the Colonels to a 1-for-21 quarter from the field, leading 18-3 after the opening period. The Warriors opened up a 21-point lead in the second quarter before a 12-5 spurt from Wilkes closed the half, with Lycoming leading 36-22 at the break.

The Warriors defense again locked down in the second half, holding Wilkes to a 6-for-30 clip in the final 20 minutes as Lycoming gradually pulled to the final 31-point margin.

Lycoming was led by Abdo, who went 5-for-11 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range, while hitting all four of her free throws. She also dished out a team-best seven assists and pulled down five boards. 

Senior Allison Fisher (Pinehurst, N.C. / Burrell) scored 16 points, knocking down four threes, while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Junior Ann-Marie McMurtrie (Centre Hall, Pa. / Penns Valley) put up 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, plus nine rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) also chipped in six points, five rebounds, three blocks, and a pair of steals.

Wilkes was led by Yamirelis Matos, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a Landmark Conference matchup against the Catholic University of America. Tipoff from Lamade Gym will be at 4 p.m.
