Fite's goal lifts Warriors to shutout win

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — First-year Laurel Fite (Shermans Dale, Pa. / West Perry) found the back of the cage in the second quarter and the Lycoming College field hockey team made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over Juniata College in a Landmark Conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Knox Stadium.

Lycoming (10-5, 4-3) bounced back from an overtime setback with Elizabethtown to best Juniata (2-15, 0-7) and reach double-digit wins in a season for the first time in program history,  as well as setting a new program record for conference wins and securing just the third winning season in the school's history and the first winning mark since 1978.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Warriors took the lead just over five minutes into the second quarter, when Fite took a nifty no-look pass from senior Halie Woodring (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) and deposited it between the keeper's legs and into the cage for her seventh goal of the season, matching the team lead and giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

With the advantage, the Warrior defense and senior keeper Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) kept the Eagles at bay. Bobé made seven saves in the second half, including five in the fourth quarter, stopping all 11 shots that came her way in the fourth shutout of the year and ninth of her career.

The Warriors will travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 25 for a Landmark Conference matchup against Susquehanna University that will get underway at Sassafras Field at 1 p.m.
