WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lycoming College field hockey team honored its nine graduating seniors and took a lead into the fourth quarter in a 3-2 overtime defeat in a Landmark Conference matchup against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Oct. 18 at UPMC Field.
Â
Elizabethtown (6-9, 3-3) tied the game early in the fourth quarter and won it just shy of halfway through the first extra period, snapping Lycoming's (9-5, 3-3) three-game winning streak in the Warriors' first overtime contest of the season.
Â
Despite the Warriors outshooting the Blue Jays 7-1 in the opening quarter, Elizabethtown connected on that lone shot, with Hannah Long scoring off a pass from Drew Bridges to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead six minutes into the contest.
Â
Lycoming, however, flipped the script in the second quarter, with senior
Tayah Bauer (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) scoring her seventh goal of the season off a penalty corner pass from fellow senior
Katie Loughran (Ottsville, Pa. / Pennridge) just over three minutes into the period. Eight minutes later, the Warriors took the lead when first year
Laurel Fite (Shermans Dale, Pa. / West Perry) tallied her sixth goal of the year off a pass from sophomore
Lacy Eckard (Muncy, Pa. / Muncy) to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead going into the break.
Â
In the second half, Elizabethtown ramped up the offensive pressure, but senior keeper
Isabella Bobé stopped all ten shots that came her way in the third quarter alone, among her 18 total saves on the afternoon.
Â
However, the Blue Jays tied the game less than a minute into the fourth quarter when Meadow Keet stuck a rebound into the cage to even the score at two. No further scoring occurred, sending the game to overtime. In the extra session, Elizabethtown came away with the win when Long scored her second goal of the day off a pass from Kaylie Noel at the 5:04 mark, ending the contest.
Â
The Warriors start a two-game road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when they head for a Landmark Conference match at Juniata. The game will get underway at Knox Stadium at 4 p.m.
