Valentine leads trio in double figures against Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) posted 20 points and seven rebounds to lead three Lycoming College men's basketball players in double figures as the team fell to Susquehanna University, 90-65, in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday night, Jan. 15.

Valentine, who reached 20 points for the fourth time this year and moved within six points of 750 in his career, canned four 3-pointers and hit 8-of-13 from the floor for the Warriors (2-12 overall, 1-6 Landmark). Sophomore Connor Shanahan (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) finished with 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals and sophomore Hayden Pardoe (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) notched 11 points and a block. Senior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy) added eight points and two assists and first-year Princeton Layton (Monrovia, Md./Glenelg Country School) added seven points and two rebounds.

The River Hawks (7-7 overall, 4-3 Landmark) used a 17-3 run to lead 27-9 with 14:48 left before the Warriors used a 10-3 run to cut that lead to 30-19 after a 3-pointer in transition from Shanahan. Susquehanna got the lead back to 16 at 43-27 by the break and extended that lead to 22 in the first couple minutes of the second half.

The Warriors fought back with an 11-2 run to make it an 11-point game after a Valentine trey with 14:48 left and were still within 11 halfway through the half, but the River Hawks didn't let the Warriors any closer, getting their lead to 27 with 1:15 left in the game before senior Bernard Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) hit a jumper to close out the scoring.

Lifted by a 50 percent effort from long range in the second half (7-of-14), the Warriors shot 40 percent (25-of-63) from the field in the game.

Brandon Lavitt led the River Hawks with 19 points and six rebounds, Billy Anderson added 16 points and six rebounds and Cooper Haberern added 10 points. Susquehanna shot 59 percent from the field (37-of-63) from the field, scoring 56 points in the paint.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 18, when they host Goucher College in a 4 p.m. Landmark Conference tilt to cap a doubleheader after the women's game at 2 p.m.
