PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Through a game filled with eight lead changes and four ties, senior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) and sophomore Alyssa Reisinger (Kulpmont, Pa. / Mount Carmel Area) each contributed 15 points to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team in a 73-63 setback to Moravian University in Landmark Conference action on Sunday evening, Jan. 12, at the Historic Palestra.
Lycoming (2-11 overall, 1-5 Landmark) competed in a tight game with five lead changes occurring in the third period alone, ending the quarter down by five. The Warriors remained within five points of Moravian for the first half of the fourth quarter before the Greyhounds pulled away.
Alongside Dufner and Reisinger, junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) added 13 points for the Warriors. Dufner also grabbed six rebounds and senior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa. / North Pocono) contributed five. The Warriors posted 11 steals, 11 assists, and five blocks in the game.
Senior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa. / North Schuylkill) kicked off the Warriors' scoring spree in the first period, earning a layup in the paint off an opponent turnover. Senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) hit a layup, Fisher followed up with two free throws in the fifth minute, and Dufner added a layup, bringing the Warriors' lead to 8-4. To widen the gap, Reisinger hit a layup, Goldenziel contributed a free throw, and Fisher returned with a jumper. Moravian tied the game at 13 as the first quarter ended.
Goldenziel hit a jumper to tie the score at 15 early in the second quarter. The Greyhounds reclaimed the lead in the third minute, but the Warriors fired back with a free throw by junior Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa. / Nativity BVM), Dufner, and Reisinger as well as layups by Dufner and Reisinger. As halftime neared, Reisinger returned with a tip-in layup and Fisher responded with a 3-pointer to push Lycoming to a six-point lead. In the last minute, Dufner made a free throw, and Reisinger and Dufner each hit layups to help the Warriors bring an 11-point advantage into halftime, 38-27.
After a slow start of the third quarter, Dufner made a layup in the third minute and Goldenziel followed up with one of her own two minutes later, attempting to reclaim the lead after Moravian took a one-point advantage. Abdo added a layup off a fast break to bring the score to 43-42 in Lycoming's favor, but the lead was short lived. Moravian reclaimed the lead with jumper, layup, and free throw, but Reisinger responded with a free throw and Fisher posted a layup to earn the advantage again. The Greyhounds quickly secured two jumpers and a layup to end the period with a five-point lead.
Attempting to close the gap, Reisinger jumped out with a layup and first-year Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) followed suit with a layup in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Abdo hit a free throw in the second minute, but Moravian kicked back with four more points. Yoh posted a layup in the paint in the third minute and followed up with a free throw as the gap remained less than five points. The Greyhounds added a layup and free throw, but Dufner returned with a 3-pointer, making the score 63-58. Fisher added a free throw, but Moravian widened the gap to 10 points. With less than 30 seconds on the clock, Goldenziel and Dufner each made a layup, bringing the final margin to 73-63.
Lizzie Lustig led the Moravian (3-10 overall, 1-5 Landmark) with 19 points. Juliana Vassallo also contributed 17 points.
The Warriors travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., on Wednesday, Jan. 15, for a Landmark Conference game against Susquehanna, which will tip-off at 7 p.m.
