Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Shanahan leads Warriors at the Palestra

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Connor Shanahan (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) led a group of four Lycoming College men's basketball players to finish in double figures, as Lycoming fell to a hot-shooting Moravian University, 115-78, in Landmark Conference action on Sunday night, Jan. 12, to complete the conference's Gameday at the Palestra event.

Shanahan's career-high 20 points also came with four rebounds and two steals. Junior Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) added 12 points and four assists, first-year Noah Mathis (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) added 11 points and a block and sophomore Hayden Pardoe (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) finished with 10 points, six rebounds and a block. Senior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy) added nine points and five rebounds and senior Bernard Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) posted five points and a steal.

The first half was played at a frenetic pace, with both teams shooting well. The Warriors (2-11 overall, 1-5 Landmark) shot 47 percent (16-of-34) but were outpaced by the Greyhounds (9-4 overall, 4-2 Landmark), who shot 61 percent (23-of-38), helping it take a 61-44 lead into the break.

Moravian started the game on a 15-2 run before Pardoe and Shanahan canned a pair of 3-pointers. The Greyhounds scored 11 of the next 13 points and maintained a 10-point lead the rest of the way, although the Warriors did have a seven-point run keyed by five points from Komitski, who converted a driving dunk and followed that with an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 46-33 with 5:52 left in the period.

The team's cooled off slightly in the second half, with Moravian shooting 51 percent (20-of-39) in the period and the Warriors countered at 38 percent (12-of-32). Shanahan scored 11 of his 20 points in the half.

Chad Kratzer led the Greyhounds with 34 points and eight 3-pointers and Marquis Ratcliff added 32 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they host Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action in Lamade Gym at 7 p.m.
