Shams, Taylor lead Warriors against Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First year Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) and senior Luke Taylor (Williamsport, Pa. / Word of Life Bible Institute) each won their first career singles matches to lead the Lycoming College men's tennis team, which fell to Penn College, 5-2, on Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts.

Shams beat Penn College's Seth Priestman, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles tournament. Taylor won his No. 6 singles match against Hunter Knosky. In the first set, Taylor matched Knosky's efforts hit-for-hit,  winning the tiebreaker 9-7 before he dominated in the second set with a 6-1 win.

Seniors Matthew Baldridge (Damascus, Md. Damascus) and Mohamed Ebeid (Cairo, Egypt Egyptian British International School) won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, against Penn College's Matt Williams and Seth Priestman, securing Lycoming's first victory of the day.

Shams and Taylor rallied against Penn College's Logan Ogden and Jayden Manbeck at No. 3 doubles in an effort to secure the double point, but the duo ultimately fell in the tiebreaker, 7-4.

The Warriors play again at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m., when they face the Misericordia University.
