ALLENTOWN, Pa. - After going into overtime play, first-year Riley Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) took a long pass off a restart and handled the rest by herself, getting the ball near midfield and rolling in for a score into the left corner of the net to lift the Lycoming College field hockey team to a 2-1 win at Cedar Crest on Friday night, Aug. 30.
Freshman Lacy Eckard (Muncy, Pa. / Muncy) put the Warriors (1-0 overall) on the board with the team's first goal of the season in the second quarter, assisted by junior Riley Marines (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs).
Cedar Crest (0-1 overall) squeaked in a goal with a breakaway goal in the fourth quarter with 7:47 remaining from Olivia Wanner on an assist from Sydney Jeker, forcing the teams into overtime play.
Just 38 seconds into the overtime, Hackett was able to dent the back of the cage, as she rolled right and found the left corner.
The Warriors launched 15 shots at Cedar Crest and they were met with four shots in return from their opponent.
Junior goalkeeper Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) stopped two shots in net, while Shelby Heater stopped five for the Falcons.
The Warriors play again on Saturday, Aug. 31, against Penn St.-Harrisburg, which will be the team's first home game of the season at the UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium. The game kicks off at 3 p.m.
