WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./ Cortland) scored a career-high six goals to pace the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, as it beat Penn College, 11-8, on Wednesday night, April 24 at UPMC Field in non-conference play.
Hines scored three goals in the first half and three more in the second, plus he added on one assist. Senior Patrick Dwyer (Somerville, N.J./ Immaculata) and junior Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del./ Smyrna) each had two goals and junior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./ Selinsgrove Area) added the team's other goal. The Warriors (5-8 overall) had six players notch assists including Wilson, Hoover and Hines. Junior Sean Farrell led the team with two assists.
After Penn College (8-8 overall) scored the first goal, the Warriors got rolling, with two scores from Hines in the first quarter and one each from Dwyer and Hoover to take a 4-2 lead that increased to 6-3 early in the second before a pair of Penn College goals made it 6-5 at the break.
The Wildcats tied the game early in the third quarter, but Dwyer and Wilson added goals in a two-minute span midway through the quarter to give the Warriors the lead and a trifecta of Hines goals in the fourth quarter kept the Wildcats at bay.
Penn College (8-7 overall) was led by Harrison Schlachta, who had three goals and Guerin San Agustin with two assists. Alex Hammond made 14 saves in net.
Junior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./ Emmaus) made 18 saves to earn the win. Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area), junior Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J./Archmere Academy) and sophomore Cole Slezak (Butler, Pa./Kiski Prep) had two caused turnovers each.
The Warriors will be back in action for their final game of the season as they visit Goucher College on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in Landmark Conference action.
