Warriors shut down Penn College in midweek doubledip

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomores Treyson Green (Celebration, Fla./Windermere Prep), Joel Inman (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Rick Trapanese (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) combined on a pair of four-hit shutouts to the Lycoming College baseball team to a sweep of Penn College on Tuesday afternoon, April 23, at Brandon Park, with Lycoming winning the first game, 2-0, and the second, 8-0.

Green (1-0) set the tone in the first game, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out three in five-plus innings to help the Warriors (8-25 overall) to a 2-0 win.

The only runner to get past second base in Green's five innings came in the third inning, when Brandon Shane doubled down the left field line, but a perfect relay from senior Kenny Nichols (Corry, Md./Corry Area) to sophomore shortstop Jack Kelly (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) to sophomore catcher Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) cut the runner at first down at the plate.

The Warriors rallied in the bottom of the inning, as Reeder reached after he struck out before junior Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) singled to left with one out. After a double steal and a hit batter, senior Joey Trout (North East, Md./St. Elizabeth) singled through the right side to drive in a run and junior Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius) hit a sac fly to bring in the second run.

Green got the benefit of two double plays, the last one coming in the fifth. He turned the ball over to Inman, who earned the save with two perfect innings of relief. Gabe Reptsik (1-2) allowed four hits and two unearned runs in four innings for the Wildcats (17-18 overall). He struck out two.

Nichols was 2-for-3 to lead Lycoming's five-hit attack.

The Warriors jumped out with seven runs in the first two innings in the second game, while Reeder shut down the Wildcats for five innings, striking out six in the 8-0 win.

Reeder allowed four hits and two walks, allowing just one to reach third in the win before yielding to Trapanese, who didn't give up a hit in the final two innings, striking out two.

In the first, the Warriors got started as Reeder and Hoheb walked before a groundout and wild pitch brought Reeder in with two outs, setting up a double down the line from first-year Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). Nichols followed with a single into left center to bring in MacCluen. Sophomore Zach Kudlacik (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) singled and then a delayed double steal helped Nichols score.

In the second, Kelly walked before Reeder and Mok reached on errors to load the bases. Hoheb lifted a sac fly to center and Trout delivered a two-RBI single to right. Lycoming scored its last run in the fifth, as MacCluen walked, moved to second on a single by Kudlacik and scored on a single by sophomore Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Area).

Kudlacik went 2-for-3. Trout had two RBI and Reeder scored two runs.

Griffin Vollman (3-2) allowed three hits and four runs in one inning.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, April 24, when they host Wilkes University at 4 p.m. in Landmark Conference play.
