Trio of Warriors have three hits in Drew doubleheader

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), senior Joey Trout (North East, Md./St. Elizabeth) and first-year Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), who blasted two homers as well, led the Lycoming College baseball team with three hits a piece during a doubleheader at Drew University on Saturday, April 14 at Lonnstrom Stadium, falling 8-7 and 5-4.
 
Reeder went 2-for-3 with a RBI and MacCluen went 2-for-5 with two runs, a double and a two-run homer in the second game, which Drew (17-11 overall, 9-7 Landmark) came back to win, 5-4, with three runs in the eighth.
 
Drew scored a run in the first and second before the Warriors (5-23 overall, 2-13 Landmark) scored in the third. MacCluen hit a two-out double in the third and scored on a pair of wild pitches. They tied the game in the fourth, as sophomore Jack Kelly (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) walked before Reeder doubled to left to bring him in. In the seventh, the Warriors took the lead when Trout singled to lead off, setting up MacCluen's homer.
 
Senior Zac Zaller (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) tossed seven innings in the no-decision, allowing six hits and two runs. He struck out two. First-year Grayson Rinker (Jersey Shore, Pa./Montoursville) (0-2) allowed three runs and four hits in one inning. Chris Tobia (1-0) earned the win with two innings of hitless relief. Brandon Korbyn earned the save, allowing a hit and striking out two in the ninth.
 
Ryan Jones led the Rangers, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Trout went 2-for-4 with a homer and Kelly went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI to pace the Warriors in the first game, where they nearly overcame a four-run third inning in an 8-7 setback. Sophomore Zachary Pleska (Salem, Ohio/Columbiana) also had two hits and a run.
 
Down 4-0 in the fifth, the Warriors started a comeback with MacCluen homering to bring in Pleska. In the sixth, the Warriors closed within 5-3, as a single by junior Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius) scored Kelly. In the seventh, Trout homered to make it 6-4 and in the eighth, Kelly singled to score Reeder and make it 7-5 before Kelly scored when sophomore Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) reached on an error.
 
Drew got one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and were able to withstand a rally in the ninth, as senior Kenny Nichols (Columbia, Md./Corry Area) scored on a double play before a fly out ended the game with the tying run at third.
 
Sophomore Noah Miller (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) (2-4) allowed eight hits and two earned runs in six innings. He walked one and struck out three. Matt Colucci (3-1) earned the win, allowing seven hits and four runs in seven innings. He struck out six. Graham Ross earned the save, allowing a hit and run in the ninth.
 
Nate Miller led the Rangers with a three-run homer and four RBI. Billy Coleman went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, April 20, when they face Lancaster Bible College at 1 p.m. at South Williamsport Community Park.
