WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./ Cortland) led the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team to their first Landmark Conference victory with four goals and an assist as it beat Wilkes University, 13-9, at UPMC Field on Wednesday night, April 10.
Hines scored two goals in the second period just a minute apart as part of a six-goal run that helped the Warriors to an 8-2 lead. Junior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa./ Allentown Central Catholic) and junior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./ Selinsgrove Area) each added two goals and two assists.
Wilkes (4-8 overall, 1-4 Landmark) made a comeback in the third period scoring four goals and making it a one-point game with eight minutes remaining in the third, but a 3-minute penalty helped the Warriors score a pair of man-up goals, one from senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and one from senior Patrick Dwyer (Somerville, N.J./Immaculata) to give the Warriors a three-goal lead.
The Colonels closed within one once more, early in the fourth, but Hines struck with a pair of goals midway through the period before junior Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J./ Archmere Academy) scored with the long pole with 33 seconds left to ice the game.
The Colonels were led by Tucker Parmer, Joseph Markey and Tim Hartka, as they all had two goals. Joseph Marino and Caleb Miller combined for 10 saves.
Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) notched four caused turnovers and Ryan Farrell totaled 10 groundballs and won 14 of 20 faceoffs. Junior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./ Emmaus) faced 34 shots and totaled 16 saves.
The Warriors will be back in action Saturday, April 13 as they host Drew University at 1 p.m. in Landmark Conference play at UPMC Field.
