WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior goalkeeper Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) posted 22 saves, one shy of his season high, and senior Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) scored twice to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, as it opened Landmark Conference play with a 16-5 setback at the Catholic University of America on Saturday afternoon, March 23.
Junior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) added a goal and an assist and senior
Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) and junior
Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) each also added goals. Senior
Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) added four groundballs and three caused turnovers and junior
Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, Pa./Archmere Academy) also grabbed four groundballs. Junior
Shayne Wilson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) also caused two turnovers.
Switzer, with 16 caused turnovers in the last three games, is just one shy of becoming the 14th player in program history to post 20 in a season and he is 12 shy of the school record set by
Brody Balasa in 2022.
The Warriors (2-3 overall, 0-1 Landmark) tied the game at one 4:46 into the contest, but Catholic (5-3 overall, 1-0 Landmark) scored the next 12 goals to take control of the game before Hoover scored with 13:02 remaining in the contest.
Steven Dezelic led the Cardinals with four goals and two assists and John Hadden had three goals. Cullen Lotz led the team with three assists, Ryan Macksoud grabbed 10 groundballs and won 14 faceoffs. Tyler Merchant made eight saves in goal to earn the win.
The Warriors are back at UPMC Field on Friday, March 29, when they host Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
