Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Scozzafava, Switzer, Warriors put up prolific numbers in 26-16 win

LA PLUME, Pa. – Junior Troy Scozzafava (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) posted six goals and seven assists to notch 13 points, the most for a Lycoming College men's lacrosse player in 21 years, and senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) notched a program-record seven caused turnovers, to lead the team to a 26-16 win over Keystone College in non-conference action on Saturday, March 16, at the Turf Field Athletic Complex.

Scozzafava's 13 points tied the second-best mark in program history set by Shawn Rosa against Lees-McRae in 1998 and were one shy of the program record of 14 set by Dave Kirschner against King's in 2003. The team's 26 goals were the most since 2004, when the team beat Moravian, 27-8, and tied for the sixth-most in program history. Senior Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./ Wyoming Area), meanwhile, led the defense 11 ground balls to go with the seven caused turnovers, as he broke the program record that he tied in his last outing, surpassing the mark set by Kevin Devenney against SUNY Maritime in 2010.

Junior Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./ Selinsgrove Area) led the Warriors with seven goals, Scozzafava and senior Andrew Ednie (Farmingville, N.Y./ Sachem East) both added six and senior Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./ Northwestern Lehigh) posted three tallies.

The Warriors (2-2 overall) led the entire game, jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, paced by junior Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa./ Allentown Central Catholic), who had three consecutive assists to start the game. Ednie and senior Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./ Cortland) each had three assists to go with Scozzafava's 11.

Junior Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) earned the win, as he faced 47 shots and made 16 saves, also scooping up six ground balls and senior Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J./Archmere Academy) added five groundballs and a caused turnover. Ednie and sophomore Cole Slezak (Butler, Pa./Kiski Prep) each had two caused turnovers.

Hines had two goals and Farrell and senior Evan Unser (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) each also scored.

Keystone (3-4 overall) scored 15 goals, five each in the last three quarters, but Lycoming outscored the Giants in all four quarters. Abe Wallace led Keystone with six goals and Wilson Ingalls and Tyler McManus each had three assists. Goalkeeper Edwin Himmel-Maines faced 50 shots and made 16 saves. Cody Dembski added 18 groundballs and Chris Armas had 12.

The Warriors kick off Landmark Conference play against the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.
