Lockard leads Warriors against eighth-ranked Scranton

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's basketball team fell, 62-26, to eighth-ranked the University of Scranton at Lamade Gym on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Landmark Conference play.

Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) led the team with nine points, scoring seven in the first half, and adding on four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./ North Schuylkill) and junior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./ North Pocono) each had six points. Goldenziel led the team with five rebounds.

The Warriors (12-12 overall, 6-11 Landmark) held a lead in the first quarter, as Wetzel hit two 3-pointers early to give them a 12-9 advantage, but Scranton was able to make a comeback with the last four points of the quarter to lead 13-12. In the second quarter, the Royals (22-2 overall, 15-2 Landmark) lengthen the lead to 32-14 at halftime.

The Royals (22-2 overall,15-2 Landmark) shot 64 percent from the field in the third quarter to extend the lead to 33 and put the game out of reach.

Allie Lynch posted 11 points and Meghan Lamanna had 12 points for the Royals. Maddy Ryan and Kaci Kranson led the team with eight rebounds. Kaeli Romanowski had eight points and four assists and Jenna Sloan had five steals.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Lamade Gym as they host the 10th-ranked Catholic University of America, needing to win to have a chance to enter next week's Landmark Conference Championship. The game will begin shortly after 4pm as the seniors will be honored before tip-off.
