Warriors fall to Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Senior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa. / North Schuylkill) led the Lycoming College women's basketball team with eight points and two 3-pointers in a 73-42 non-conference setback at Bryn Athyn on Tuesday evening, Dec. 17.

Along with her eight points, Wetzel also accumulated two blocks and two assists. Sophomore Alyssa Reisinger (Kulpmont, Pa. / Mount Carmel Area) added five points and seven rebounds and junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) also contributed four points and four rebounds for the Warriors (1-7 overall). Sophomore Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley), senior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and sophomore Sydnie Stone (Muncy Valley, Pa./Montoursville Area) also added four points a piece.

Bryn Athyn jumped out with an early lead in the first quarter, earning 14 points before first-year Summer Emlet (New Cumberland, Pa. / Red Land) made a layup and Goldenziel followed up with a jumper. Sophomore Ann-Marie McMurtrie (Centre Hall, Pa. / Penns Valley) added a free throw to end the first period for the Warriors.

Senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) and Hartman both hit layups to start the second quarter. Two minutes later, Yoh hit a free throw and Reisinger added all five points to close the growing gap with Bryn Athyn (9-2 overall).  With a minute remaining in the second quarter, Fisher posted a layup, and Wetzel snagged the ball to make a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining on the clock.

In the seventh minute of the third quarter, Wetzel knocked in another a 3-pointer and Goldenziel hit a jumper. Wetzel also made a driving layup in the period and Hartman nailed a jumper to end the period.

Fisher hit a driving layup a minute into the fourth quarter. Dufner followed up with a 3-pointer and Stone added a layup. McMurtire and senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) each posted two free throws and Stone contributed a layup.

Zhymani Smith led Bryn Athyn with 27 points, two steals, and four assists.  Alayna Day also posted 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

 
The Warriors travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Daytona Beach Shootout, facing Letourneau University on Friday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m.
