WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - First-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) secured first-place wins for the Lycoming College men's swimming team in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles to lead the team against Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action at Lamade Gym Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9.
Martinez notched a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.50, only four seconds away from his personal best. He established a lead at the 100-yard mark in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 5:21.27.
Swimming head-to-head against Elizabethtown's Marco Niosi, sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.23, fractions of a second before the second-place finisher.
For the women's team, sophomore Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.46. Finishing within a second of the first- and second-place swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle, Fox also claimed third with a 27.84 time. She neared her personal best (27.07) in the 50-yard freestyle, which she claimed at the Landmark Conference Championships in February 2024.
First-year Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) swam a personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke, securing a 1:21.23 finish. She beat her previous record of 1:21.78 from a meet against Lebanon Valley on October 19, 2024.
Both the men's and women's swimming teams at Elizabethtown improved to a 4-0 overall and 3-0 Landmark Conference record, as the men won 153-32 and the women 146-30. The Warrior men fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the Landmark Conference, and the women to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the Landmark.
The Warriors travel to Huntingdon, Pa., on Friday, Nov. 15, when they compete against Landmark Conference opponents, Juniata and Susquehanna, in a 4 p.m. double dual meet.
