Herrera drills eight treys at King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Sophomore Misaias Herrera (Katy, Texas/Katy Jordan) led the Lycoming College men's basketball team with career highs of eight 3-pointers and 24 points, but a hot-shooting King's College posted a 94-69 non-conference win on Monday evening, Nov. 25, at McGrane Gymnasium.

Herrera, who was 8-of-11 while hitting the sixth-most 3-pointers in a game in program history, was one of three Warriors (1-6 overall) to finish in double figures, as senior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy) added 15 points and junior Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Connor Shanahan (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) added three points, six assists and two steals.

The Warriors were ignited in the first half thanks to an impressive 12-of-20 shooting performance from 3-point range. After working through five ties and a lead change in the first 8:31, the Warriors went on a 25-9 run to lead 44-28 with 5:56 left in the first. The team hit all seven of its 3-point attempts during the run, with Herrera canning four and Miller, Shanahan and Valentine each adding one.

The Monarchs closed the gap to a point at halftime at 46-45 with a 17-2 run, as it hit all five of its field goal and five free throw attempts in the half's last five minutes.

King's (4-1 overall) took the lead with the first basket of the second half, but stayed within a possession of Lycoming until the 11:00 mark. With 7:42 left, Herrera hit a 3-pointer in transition to pull within six points at 69-63, but King's closed the game on a 25-6 run to pull away.

Garrett Burys led the Monarchs with 23 points, Ben Rodner-Tims had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Chris Patton notched 12 points and five steals and Eamonn Walsh added 17 points. Jake Karnish led the Monarchs with nine rebounds.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when they head to Wilkes University for a 7 p.m. Landmark Conference game.
