Warriors sweep up at Waynesburg Duals

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – With four Lycoming College wrestlers going a perfect 3-0 during the Waynesburg Duals, the team was able to sweep its first three dual meets of the season, beating Washington & Jefferson, 30-20, Penn State Behrend, 47-6 and Division II Shippensburg, 25-19, at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17.

Senior 125-pounder Kaden Majcher (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) notched three pins during the meet to lead the Warriors (3-0 overall), junior 149-pounder Kobin Karper (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) had a fall, tech fall and a major decision, sophomore 174-pounder Nolen Zeigler (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) added two falls and a tech fall and senior Robbie West (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) added two decisions and a pin.

Majcher got the Warriors out to a big start against the Raiders (3-2 overall) with a first-period pin of Noah Gilgore before a forfeit at 133 gave Lycoming a 12-0 lead in the 25-19 win. Karper added a major decision before a pair of bonus-point wins brought Shippensburg within 16-12. However, Zeigler pinned Trey Shoemaker in the third period to put Lycoming up 22-12 and even though Shippensburg won the next two bouts to close within three points, West clinched the win with a 2-0 decision against Connor Livingston, earning an escape and a riding time point.

Lycoming opened the day with a 30-20 win over Washington & Jefferson (0-2 overall), with sophomore 157-pounder Jayden Drummond (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) giving Lycoming a 17-12 lead with a pin of Jaizik Sanabria at 157 pounds. Majcher and Karper provided the first 11 points and tech falls from Zeigler and junior 174-pounder Eli Crum (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) put the meet out of reach at 27-15. West added a sudden-victory win to seal the dual.

Lycoming won nine of the 10 duals en route to a 47-6 rout of Penn State Behrend (1-1 overall). Majcher, senior 133-pounder Thomas Conselyea (Landing, N.J./Roxbury), senior 141-pounder Shane Perry (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), Karper, Zeigler and West scored falls and Crum had a technical fall in the win.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23, when they head to Muhlenberg College's Scotty Wood Duals at 12 p.m.
