WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Riley Marines (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) scored a penalty stroke goal in the third quarter and added another tally in the 57th minute for her fourth score in two games as the Lycoming College field hockey team fell 4-3 in Landmark Conference play against Drew on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, at UPMC Field.
Trailing by two as the third quarter kicked off, the Warrior offense hummed to life in the second half. After three corner shots, Marines took a penalty stroke in the 34th minute and shot the ball past Drew's goalkeeper.
In the 41st minute, sophomore Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) took another corner shot for the Warriors, launching the ball toward junior Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa. / Donegal) on the outside edge of the circle. Burton sailed the ball leftward to Shelly, who carried it into the net.
Shelly shot a penalty corner for the Warriors in the 57th minute, and the ball ricocheted among players before junior Tayah Bauer (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) gained possession of the ball and rocketed it toward the net, where Marines pushed it in for a goal.
In net for the Warriors, junior Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) saved 13 shots. For the Rangers, goalie Beth Kelly made six saves.
Lycoming (8-8 overall, 3-5 Landmark Conference) took 13 shots, with three coming from Burton, and Drew posted 20 in return. The Warriors notched 10 penalty corners to the Rangers' six.
After a scoreless first quarter, Tyler Olivio secured Drew's first goal in the 26th minute with a shot into the net's bottom right corner. Two minutes later, Lauren Cagliostro posted the team's second point off a penalty stroke.
Janelle Arch and Olivio each scored for Drew (9-8 overall, 3-5 Landmark Conference) in the third and fourth quarters respectively, maintaining the team's lead.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Tuesday, Oct . 29, at 7 p.m., in the regular-season finale for Landmark Conference competition against third-place University of Scranton.
