WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) helped the Lycoming College women's soccer team to 1-0 wins against Juniata and Catholic by saving four shots in each game, helping her earn her second Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week award of the season, the conference announced on Monday, Oct. 21.
Block had a pair of four-save efforts in key wins that helped the Warriors move within a win of earning their first Landmark Conference Championship berth. She had four saves, including stopping one 1-v-1 opportunity, in a 1-0 win over Juniata and added four more saves in a 1-0 win over Catholic, helping the Warriors move into a tie for second in the Landmark Conference with three regular-season games remaining. As the game wound down in the 81st and 83rd minutes, Block stopped two shot attempts, helping the Warriors maintain their 1-0 lead against the Cardinals.
The award is the second of the season for the junior keeper, as she also earned it on Oct. 7, after leading the team to wins over King's and Susquehanna.
Block leads the Landmark Conference with a .889 save percentage and her .726 goals-against average is fourth in the league. She is 7-1-2 on the season with four complete shutouts and a hand in four combined blankings.
Lycoming (11-2-3 overall) is one win shy from the school record of 12 wins from 2022, while it's 3-1-2 Landmark Conference slate is has them tied for second in the league with three games remaining.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Wednesday, Oct. 23, for Landmark Conference play against Wilkes University, needing a win to clinch a spot in the Landmark Conference Championship for the first time. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
