Four Warriors in double figures against Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four Lycoming College women's basketball players finished in double figures, led by 16 points and nine rebounds from senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area), but Susquehanna University used a strong second half to earn a 76-67 win in Landmark Conference action on Tuesday evening, Jan. 9, at Lamade Gym.

Lockard shot 7-of-9 from the field en route to her 16 points and was joined in double figures by junior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO), who posted 15 points and eight rebounds, sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottstown, Pa./Nativity BVM), who notched 12 points and junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional), who added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. First-year Ann-Marie McMurtrie (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) also added six points for the Warriors (8-6 overall, 2-6 Landmark).

Lycoming built some distance in the early part of the second quarter thanks to an 11-2 run, leading 25-17 three minutes into the period, but Susquehanna (9-6 overall, 4-3 Landmark) answered back with eight straight points to tie the game with 4:28 left. The Warriors responded with a 10-1 run to lead 35-26 after a turnaround jumper from first-year Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley), but the River Hawks scored the last five points of the half to head into break down four, withstanding a Warrior offense that shot 48 percent in the half (15-of-31) thanks to a 13-of-15 effort at the free-throw line.

Susquehanna shot 61 percent in the second half (17-of-28), taking the lead with 5:20 left in the third and leading 53-48 at the end of the quarter. Susquehanna hit a 3-pointer to start the final period and Lycoming cut the lead down to four with 1:20 left, but Susquehanna hit five free throws in the waning seconds to keep Lycoming at bay.

The two teams fought through five ties and five lead changes in the first quarter, with Lycoming grabbing the lead with its final shot of the quarter, a 3-pointer from Abdo to make it 17-15.

Julia Roth led the River Hawks with 25 points and eight rebounds, Julia Pinckert added 14 points, six assists and four steals and Kenzie Selvaggi added 12 points, three assists and three steals.
