Lockard, Yoh help Warriors down Goucher, 69-53

TOWSON, Md. – Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) posted 18 points and a season-high 16 rebounds to pace the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which ran past Goucher College in the second half for a 69-53 win in Landmark Conference action on Friday afternoon, Jan. 12 at Decker Arena.

After Goucher (1-13 overall, 1-6 Landmark) cut a 14-point first quarter lead in half at the break, the Warriors (9-6 overall, 3-5 Landmark) shot 43 percent in the second half (15-of-35) and scored 34 points while holding the Gophers to 25. 

Along with Lockard, two others finished in double figures, as junior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) posted 16 points and junior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) had 12 points and four assists. Sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) added nine points and three assists and junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) added six points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Warriors shot 55 percent in the first quarter to build a 26-12 lead, as they never trailed in the contest. Lycoming led by 18 with 6:52 left in the second quarter at 32-14, but Goucher closed the half on a 14-3 run.

Sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./ Nativity BVM) had seven points to lead the Warriors in the first half while, Yoh, Lockard,and Goldenziel each contributed six points. Lockard also totaled eight rebounds. 

The Gophers cut the lead down to two points early in the third quarter, but field goals from Yoh, Goldenziel and Dufner ended the threat and Lycoming led 56-46 at the end of the period. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors held the Gophers to two field goals and never let them within single digits.

Julia Cavoli and Briyah Haggins both scored 12 points to lead Goucher. Savannah Holmes and Merci Turner each had seven rebounds. 

The Warriors will be back on the court when they head to ninth-ranked Scranton on Wednesday, Jan. 17 for a 7 p.m. Landmark Conference tilt.
