Komitski notches 18 at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy) posted a game-high 18 points thanks to a 7-of-8 performance from the floor to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, but league-leading Susquehanna University shot 60 percent from 3-point range in the second half to post a 70-65 Landmark Conference win on Tuesday evening, Jan. 9.

Komitski, who hit 3-of-4 from 3-point range to pace the Warriors (6-8 overall, 2-5 Landmark) was one of three to finish in double figures, along with senior Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area), who moved within six points of 900 in his career with 17 points, and sophomore Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) added 14 points.

The teams worked through three ties and three lead changes in the first half, with neither team leading by more than five until Lycoming finished the half on a 12-4 run, with Hamilton pulling up for three at the buzzer to give the team a 32-24 halftime lead.

A jumper by senior Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) got the lead to 10 points on the first possession of the second half, and a 3-pointer from Komitski made it 46-35 with 13:51 left, but the River Hawks (9-4 overall, 6-0 Landmark) went on a 14-3 run to tie the game at 49 off a 3-pointer from M Pirone with 9:33 left.

Susquehanna hit 4-of-6 at the free throw line in the waning seconds to hold off Lycoming.
