TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore J.J. Beagle (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) led the Lycoming College men's basketball team with a career-high 19 points, but a hot-shooting Goucher College was able to finish off a comeback from down seven at halftime to win, 75-67, in Landmark Conference action on Friday afternoon, Jan. 12 at Decker Arena.
Beagle added nine rebounds. He went 4-for-5 at the free-throw line and 7-of-12 from the field for the Warriors (6-9 overall, 2-6 Landmark). Three other Warriors were in double figures, with first-year Hayden Pardoe (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) adding 10 points and seven rebounds and both sophomore Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) and senior Steven Hamilton(Phoenixville, Pa./ Phoenixville Area) each had 12 points, with Hamilton adding four assists. Hamilton reached the 900-point mark in the game, finishing with 906 in his career. Senior Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) finished with eight points, four assists and three steals.
Valentine scored all of his 12 points in the first half and Beagle added 10 points to go with six rebounds. The Warriors went on a 15-4 run in the first half, overcoming an early 5-2 deficit, to lead 24-13 with 8:38 left in the period and also held an 11-point lead with 1:14 left in the period after a free throw from Pardoe, but Goucher (5-10 overall, 3-5 Landmark) cut the lead to 39-32 at the break.
The Gophers started the second half with a 13-6 run to tie the game at 45, setting up a run of seven ties and four lead changes. Blackson hit a 3-pointer with 5:50 left to give Lycoming its last lead at 66-64 before Goucher scored the next nine points to put the game out of reach.
Goucher shot 51 percent from the field and 60 percent in the game. Liech Kong led the Gophers with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Jacob Morgan had 18 points and 10 assists and Onterio Miller had 17 points.
The Warriors will be back in Lamade Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 2p.m., as they host the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference play.
