Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors fall to Moravian, 58-54

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Closing within a point in the final 41 seconds, the Lycoming College women's basketball team couldn't close out a comeback from 12 points down in the second quarter, as Moravian University hit five free throws in the waning seconds for a 58-54 Landmark Conference win on Sunday evening, Jan. 7, at Lamade Gym.

Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, junior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) reached 500 career points with her sixth of nine points, adding six rebounds and four steals and junior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) added eight points and three steals for the Warriors (8-5 overall, 2-4 Landmark).

The Warriors were able to overcome a tough night from the field (29.5 percent, 18-of-61) by forcing 22 turnovers, which led to 15 points. Lycoming also held a 28-20 advantage in the paint, but Moravian (5-8 overall, 4-2 Landmark) held a 42-34 advantage on the glass.

Moravian led 47-39 with 5:42 left, but a 3-pointer from junior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) came in response to get Lycoming back on pace and a layup in the paint while being fouled from Lockard brought the Warriors within 51-49 after she finished the old-fashioned 3-point play with 1:13 left.

Dufner hit a layup with 45 seconds left to keep it a two-point game, then got a steal in the backcourt while being fouled. She hit 1-of-2 at the line to make it 53-52. In the final 41 seconds, the Greyhounds hit 5-of-6 at the line to hold off the Warrior charge.

After Moravian led by five at the break, it didn't relinquish the lead in the rest of the game, but it also didn't take a lead of more than five points in the third quarter, as the game headed into the final quarter, 40-37.

Moravian led 11-2 through the game's first six minutes before three Lycoming free throws and a transition bucket from sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) made it 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. A 14-2 run by Moravian in the second quarter gave it a 27-15 lead, but the Warriors again rallied, scoring seven straight points to end the period, with a fastbreak bucket from Dufner making it 27-22 at the break.

Sam Osorio posted 14 points and 17 rebounds for Moravian and Brielle Guarente added 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals and Lizzie Lustig added 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 9, when they host Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 6 p.m.
