Four Warriors in double figures to shoot past Colonels, 64-52

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./ North Pocono), junior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa/ North Schuylkill), junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./ Warren Hills Regional) and sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) all finished in double figures for the Lycoming College women's basketball team as it beat Wilkes University, 64-52, on Wednesday night, Jan. 24, in a key Landmark Conference game at Lamade Gym.

Abdo went into halftime only having two points, but put up 12 in the second half to lead the Warriors (10-8 overall, 4-7 Landmark) with 14 total points. Abdo went 5-of-10 in the field and 3-of-6 in 3-pointers, one of three Warriors to finish with three trifectas. Goldenziel finished the game just short of a double-double, recording 12 points and nine rebounds.

Wetzel led the team at halftime with 11 points, going 3-of-5 in three-pointers and 4-of-6 in the field, as she finished with 12 points. Dufner also went into halftime with 10 points and finished with 12. Both players led the team with four assists and Wetzel and junior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) each added three steals.

Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./ Benton Area) notched seven rebounds, also adding two assists and six points.

After Wilkes hit the opening jumper of the third quarter, the Warriors scored the next 13 points, with Abdo leading the run with five points and Goldenziel adding four as the run lasted for nearly seven minutes. Leading by 14 at the end of the third quarter, the Warriors maintained a lead of at least seven points the rest of the way and scored the last five points in the final 4:28 to pull away.

The Warriors came out shooting en route to the season-high nine 3-pointers, with Wetzel and Dufner hitting treys to open the team's scoring, while a late push off buckets from Wetzel and Yoh gave Lycoming a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors extended the leat to nine with 3:07 left off another Wetzel trey, but Wilkes closed the half on a 9-3 lead to head into the locker room down 35-32.

Nadia Evanosky led the Colonels (7-11 overall, 3-8 Landmark) with 10 points. Taylor Simpson went 3-of-5 in three-pointers, totaling eight points, and Erin Shober led the team with six rebounds.
