Warriors perfect on second day of Whitehill Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Held out for all but two of the team's five dual meets this weekend, senior 197-pounder Gable Crebs (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) left his mark on the 35th annual Budd Whitehill National Duals by pinning his opponent in 51 seconds to spur the 21st-ranked Lycoming College wrestling team to its first win over Messiah University in 14 years, 26-16. Lycoming also beat McDaniel College, 31-14, on Saturday morning, Jan. 13, to finish in ninth place at the 16-team tournament at Lamade Gym.

Ninth-ranked Wis.-Eau Claire won its second straight title, beating eighth-ranked Stevens, 26-13, in the championship. Washington & Lee took third with a 23-18 win over 19th-ranked Roanoke.

The Warriors picked up six wins against the Falcons (9-7 overall) in their first win over the program since a 22-12 triumph on Jan. 22, 2010, with Messiah winning seven straight duals.

Junior 125-pounder Kaden Majcher (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) wrapped up a spot on the Whitehill Duals All-Tournament Team with a 20-1 technical fall of Bryce Arnold and senior 149-pounder Wiley Kahler (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) gutted out a 1-0 win over Camerin Deville to tie the meet at eight. Junior 165-pounder Chase Chapman (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) retied the meet at 11 with a 9-5 decision over Andrew Kozubal, coming back from a 3-0 deficit and sophomore 174-pounder Eli Crum (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) gave Lycoming a 14-11 lead with an 11-5 win over Chris Cratsley.

A tech fall at 184 helped Messiah take the lead and set the stage for Crebs' 95th career win, as he quickly got a takedown before powering up for the pin of Sawyer Dereszynski and junior heavyweight Robbie West (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) iced the win with his second pin of the day, just touching Micah Kunkle's shoulders down before the first-period bell.

The Warriors also won six bouts against McDaniel, earning bonus points in five of those bouts to pile up a 31-14 win.

Majcher kicked off the bout with a 17-0 technical fall against Romeo Tsai, sophomore 133-pounder Jaciah Whitcomb (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added a 4-2 win over Alex DuFour and sophomore 141-pounder Cooper Gilham (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) added a 15-0 technical fall over Cooper Gilham before McDaniel won the next three bouts to make it 13-10.

Crum gave the Warriors a huge lift with a pin of Dalton Pearl in 3:15 at 174 before first-year Devon Green (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) clinched the bout when he forced his opponent to stall out in the third period for a disqualification. West added another pin in the heavyweight bout to round out the team's scoring.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Jim White Duals at Washington & Jefferson College, facing Seton Hill at 10 a.m., Washington & Jefferson at 11:30 a.m., and Davis & Elkins at 1 p.m.
