Marines scores golden goal as Warriors down Cedar Crest in OT, 2-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) caught the pass at midfield and used a dribble to get past the last defender and then dribbled to the arc before leaving a pass off to sophomore Riley Marines (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who delivered the golden goal in sudden-victory overtime, as the Lycoming College field hockey team beat Cedar Crest, 2-1, on Tuesday night, Sept. 19, at UPMC Field.

The golden goal helped Lycoming (3-3 overall) surpass its win total from 2022 and turn its most wins since a 5-6 season in 1989.

The Warriors got on the board first, as junior Halie Woodring (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) delivered a shot that found the stick of first-year Carmen Hannon (Aldie, Va./John Champe), who tipped the ball past the keeper and into the net.

The Falcons (1-5 overall) tied the game with just 38 seconds remaining, as Adriana Hinkle scored on a break.

Sophomore Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) stopped 10 shots to earn the win off 11 Cedar Crest shots and Kadee Schrader notched 11 for the Falcons, as Lycoming took 15 shots in the contest.

Lycoming held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners during the contest.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they head to Goucher College for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference game.
