Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – First-year
Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) delivered a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh to lead the Lycoming College baseball team to a MAC Freedom sweep of Delaware Valley University, winning the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4, after taking the first one, 12-7, at Frank Wolfgang Field on Sunday afternoon, April 2.
Â
The win is Lycoming baseball's first doubleheader sweep since beating Juniata, 5-2 and 1-0, on May 16, 1970.
Â
Delaware Valley (6-13 overall, 1-8 MAC Freedom) tied the second game at four with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the bottom of the Lycoming lineup rallied in the seventh. Junior
Joey Trout (North East, Md./Saint Elizabeth) was hit by a pitch before first-year catcher
Cameron Bailey (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) singled into right, moving runners to second and third. A runner was cut down at home, but that set up Reeder, who went up the middle with a two-out single to give Lycoming a 6-4 lead.
Â
Lycoming (6-13 overall, 4-6 MAC Freedom) jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring once in the first and two in the third. Both times Reeder started the rally with a walk, coming around to score on an error in the first and then scoring on a single from sophomore
Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury), who has an RBI in nine of the last 10 games. Junior
Braden Campbell (Centerville, Utah/Cooper Hills) scored on an error after that.
Â
After the Aggies scored in the third, the Warriors got started in the fourth off a double from Trout. After a fielder's choice and a groundout, Reeder doubled in Lycoming's fourth run.
Â
The Aggies tied the game with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, but Schilling earned his first save with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. He struck out one.
Â
Reeder went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and three RBI.
Â
First-year
Noah Miller (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) (1-3) earned his first win, allowing three hits, two walks and three runs in three innings. He struck out two.
Â
Bobby Bright led the Aggies with two hits and a RBI. Connor Esbenshade (0-2) took the loss, allowing two hits, two walks and two runs in two innings.
Â
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Warriors scored 12 runs on 14 hits, pushing runners across in five frames to overwhelm the Aggies, 12-7.
Â
All nine players in the starting lineup had a hit, with Campbell leading the way, going 3-for-5 with three runs. Trout went 2-for-4 with a run, a double and two RBI, and first-year
Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Areaa) went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI. First-year
Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and first-year
Zachary Pleska (Salem, Ohio/Columbiana) each scored twice.
Â
Reeder was hit by a pitch to lead off before Campbell singled and a sac bunt moved the runners to second and third, where a groundout and single from first-year
Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) scored the game's first two runs.
Â
In the fourth inning, the Warriors got started with a single from Pleska and a double from Trout before Bottger tied the game at three with a single. A fielder's choice helped Trout score before Campbell and Wirin both singled. A fielder's choice and an error rounded out the five-run inning.
Â
In the fifth inning, Bottger got a rally going with a single before moving to second on a wild pitch. Reeder also singled before setting up a double steal that allowed Bottger to score.
Â
The Aggies answered back with four runs in the fifth to close within a run, but first-year reliever
Jake Wilber (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) got a groundout to end the threat with the bases loaded.
Â
Schilling led off the sixth with a double and a walk and an error helped bring in a run before Trout singled to right to drive in two. In the seventh, Lycoming scored its last run, as Campbell singled, took second on a passed bull, third on a bunt single from Wilber and scored on a sac fly from Schilling.
