HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – First-years
Sammy Polott (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson),
Stargell Fuhr (Volant, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) and
Joel Inman (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) allowed seven hits, walked two and hit three batters, but left 10 Elmira College runner stranded as the Lycoming College baseball team posted a 4-0 win on Tuesday, April 18, at Holding Point Recreation Park.
Â
The Warriors (9-20 overall) had just three hits in the contest, but timely hitting and some aggressive baserunning helped the team score its four runs.
Â
Polott (1-2) earned the win, allowing just a hit and two walks in four innings to earn the win. Fuhr threw one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one and Inman picked up a four-inning save, allowing five hits and striking out four in his run of scoreless relief.
Â
The trio combined on the first Lycoming shutout since May 16, 1970, when Norm Myers tossed a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Juniata.
Â
The Warriors jumped on the board in the third inning, when first-year
Greg Wirin (Interlaken, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) led off with a walk and scored on a two-out error in the outfield before junior
Braden Campbell (Centerville, Utah/Cooper Hills) delivered a triple to left center to score a second run.
Â
In the sixth, Campbell drew a walk before stealing second and third. After another walk, a balk allowed Campbell to score, as the Warriors had thrown on a double steal when it was called.
Â
In the seventh, first-year
Ethan Snyder (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored when first-year
Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) doubled down the line.
Â
Reeder went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI and Campbell went 1-for-2 with a run, a triple, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Â
Jared Money went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagles (6-20 overall).
Â
Elmira's Carter Wisely (1-1) took the loss, allowing a hit, two unearned runs and three walks in three innings. He struck out five, as Elmira struck out 15 in the game.
Â
