Farrell, Zimmerman lead Warriors against Alfred

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) scored his first career hat trick to help lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, as it fell, 18-10, in non-conference action to Alfred University on Wednesday, March 15, at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium.

Senior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) notched four goals, an assist, two ground balls and caused a turnover as he moved up into seventh in the program with 119 career goals, passing Andrew Ream '19, who finished his career with 117 goals. Sophomore Troy Scozzafava (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored two goals and added an assist and a ground ball. Sophomore Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) finished with a goal and an assist, four groundballs and a caused turnover.

Senior Brody Balasa (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) picked up a team-leading five groundballs.

Farrell scored the first goal for the Warriors (2-5 overall) on a shot from the left goal post on a pass from Scozzafava.

Scozzafava hit the mark at 4:12 in the second quarter, pushing his way through the Saxons' defense and into the goal crease to get the shot. Zimemrman's first of the evening came two minutes later on a wraparound shot as he came around the back left of the goal. Zimmerman scored again, this time coming from the right side as he was tripped up in front of the goal.

As sophomore goalkeeper Michael Lavinio (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) entered the game at the half, the Warriors defense held the Saxons for much of the third quarter. Zimmerman found the back of the cage for his third goal as he was able to gain possession and knock it in. Scozzafava followed from outside the crease for his second goal before the Saxons ended the quarter with two goals.

The fourth quarter saw four goals in three minutes as Farrell's second goal was the first of the series at 4:12. Hoover, getting the groundball off a shot by Zimmerman, capitalized in a scrum and scored at 2:22. Senior Joe Corozzo (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) found Zimmerman just inside the Saxons' defensive zone for a long goal just 17 seconds after Hoover's goal. Farrell sealed his hat trick with the final goal of the game on a one-handed wrap around goal.

Kevin Matson led the Saxons (3-2 overall) with six goals, an assist, and a ground ball. Marcus Darminio, Paul Forte, Josh Hauman, and Cameron Kenefick all had two goals each.

Senior goalkeeper Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Lavinio combined for 10 saves for the Warriors. Scott Kimiecik and Quinn Sullivan combined for 14 saves for the Saxons.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, March 18, when they host Montclair State University for a 1 p.m. start at UPMC Field.
