Warriors set back by Montclair State at home

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) scored four goals to move into sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 123 goals to highlight the day for the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, which fell to Montclair State, 20-10, in non-conference action on Saturday, March 18, at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium

Zimmerman added an assist, and a ground ball as he climbed past Jim Cusick '08, who scored 121 goals, into sixth on the program's all-time goals list, finishing the game three goals from the top five in program history. He also moved within two points of ninth in program history in points, where Ethan Payne '12 sits with 167 points.

Sophomore Troy Scozzafava (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored three goals and notched two assists and Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) finished with three goals and a ground ball for the Warriors (2-6 overall).

Senior Josh Hall (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) picked up a team-high seven ground balls. Sophomore Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) caused two turnovers, and sophomore Colin Manankil (White Hall, Md./Hereford) won a season-high 15 faceoffs.

The Warriors kept pace with the Red Hawks early in the game as Zimmerman tied it up at one at 12:06 with a high shot from six yards out. Scozzafava found the back of the cage next for the Warriors, coming around the back of the goal for the shot. He scored again two minutes later from the same position as the first goal on a free position for the Warriors.

The Red Hawks (4-3 overall) netted five more goals before Hoover knocked in his first goal at 13:25 in the second on a man-up opportunity for the Warriors, as he cleared a path through the defense to the front of the goal for Scozzafava's pass from behind the net. Scozzafava struck again with 1:19 remaining in the half off a pass from sophomore Sean Farrell (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic).

Zimmerman opened the fourth quarter with a goal at 10:28 with a wraparound shot from the left goal post. Hoover's shot from the top of the goal crease at 9:15 bounced its way into the net. Zimmerman, with a left handed shot from the top of the arch, scored at 8:57, and scored his final goal of the game at 5:26, as the shot hit the top right corner of the cage from outside the close defense with Scozzafava on the assist. Hoover tallied the final goal of the game with 49 seconds remaining in regulation, as Zimmerman found him on the left goal mouth for the sneaky goal.

Matthew Holland led the Red Hawks with seven goals and two assists. Ethan Mounier scored three goals. Lucas Novack picked up five ground balls and won eight faceoffs.

Both teams used their full goalkeeper rotation. Sophomore Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), sophomore Michael Lavinio (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional), and senior Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) combined for five saves for the Warriors. David Metzger, Brandon Shevins, and Owen Torrey made 12 saves for the Red Hawks.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, March 25, when they travel to Neumann University for a 3 p.m. start in Aston, Pa.
