Warriors wrap 11 hits against Scranton

ABERDEEN, Md. – Three Lycoming College baseball players had a pair of hits as the team posted more than 10 hits for the second time this year in a 14-3 setback to future Landmark Conference foe the University of Scranton on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Ripken Experience Yankee Stadium.

First-year centerfielder Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run, sophomore third baseman Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) went 2-for-5 with a RBI and first-year catcher Greg Wirin (Interlaken, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added two hits, a double and a run in three at bats.

The Warriors (1-4 overall) got on the board in the first inning, a Reeder led off with a walk before junior shortstop Braden Campbell (Centerville, Utah/Cooper Hills) drilled a double that one-hopped the left field fence to bring in Reeder.

The Royals (1-0 overall) scored three in the third and scored another in the fourth before the Warriors scratched a run across in the sixth, as Reeder singled with one out. Campbell reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a single up the middle from Schilling. First-year right fielder Matt Worth (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) followed with a single that was cut off before it could find the gap, holding Schilling at third.

The Royals got a run in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead, but the Warriors answered right back, as Wirin doubled to lead off and took third and home on balks. Scranton scored nine runs in their last three at bats to break open the game.

Conor Campbell went 3-for-6 with three runs, a double and a triple, Pat Coyne went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Jake Lisicky went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and Jack Heineman went 2-for-5 with two runs and a RBI.

First-year Noah Miller (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, two hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two. Dominic Chieffalo (1-0) earned the win for the Royals, allowing one hit, one walk and one run in 3 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out one.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 4, when they head to Penn State-Greater Allegheny for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
