Warriors tripped up at Drew

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) and sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) led the Lycoming College women's basketball team with eight points a piece as it fell to Drew University, 70-47, in Landmark Conference action at Baldwin Gym on Saturday, Dec. 9.
 
Lockard added seven rebounds and Abdo hit two 3-pointers for the Warriors (6-2 overall, 2-2 Landmark). Junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) added seven points and two steals. Junior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) added five assists.
 
Lycoming jumped out to a 9-0 lead, with juniors Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) each notching four points in the run over the game's first five minutes, but Drew (3-4 overall, 2-2 Landmark) fired back with a 35-9 run over the rest of the first half, as they shot 7-of-11 from 3-point range during the run and held the Warriors to four field goals, taking a 35-18 lead into the break.
 
In the third quarter, the Warriors cut the lead down to 15 points, outscoring the Rangers, 16-14, in the period, but Drew scored nine points in the first 1:04 of the fourth quarter to control the final minutes.
 
First-year Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) hit her first career 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and added two rebounds. First-year Sydnie Stone (Muncy Valley, Pa./Montoursville Area) also had her first career bucket in the final quarter.
 
Sarah Smout led Drew with 12 points and both Gianna Pica and Izzy Lalo each had 10. Amy Rachila posted eight points, five steals and three assists.
 
The Warriors get the week off for exams, but are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when they host Nazareth College at 2 p.m.
