WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) notched her second straight double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team to a 55-47 win at King's College for its third consecutive win on Saturday, Nov. 18 at McGrane Gymnasium.
Sophomore Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) added 10 points and three assists and first-year Lisa Star (Wanague, N.J./Lakeland) added eight points and five rebounds in her Warrior debut. Junior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) added seven rebounds, as Lycoming (3-0 overall) held a 41-29 advantage on the glass, and junior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hill Regional) posted six points, four assists and five rebounds.
Caileigh Costello had a jumper that put King's ahead, 32-31 with 3:43 left in the third, but the Warriors responded, with Star and Lockard hitting layups to give Lycoming a 35-32 lead at the end of the period, part of an 11-point run that wrapped up on a fastbreak layup from Dufner that made it 42-32 with with 6:49 left. The Monarchs couldn't get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Both teams had six-point leads in the first half, the Monarchs at 6-0 early in the first quarter and the Warriors at 22-16 with 4:21 left in the second, but the Monarchs cut that lead down to a point at 24-23 at halftime. The two teams worked through seven lead changes and two ties until Star's layup gave Lycoming the lead for good.
Alli Lindsay led the Monarchs with 13 points and Deanna Wallace had eight.
The Warriors head to Penn College for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
